A William Calvert Planter is sued for tobacco in 1733. That record
says the original claim was filed with the court in 1626. William is
in tax lists 1730-1740 8 of 11 times. I believe his wife was Nancy whom
I believe was a Handy and that they had sons Levin, Alexander, and others
perhaps a George and John and dau. Elizabeth. etc. You can see the research
document regarding William Calvert, Planter of Somerset County MD at this
site in Ongoing Research.
I found Alexander b c 1725 m Mary Wheeler 1644, Somerset, near dividing
creek, MD. He is very probably one of the sons of WIlliam Calvert above.
Their children were William 1645 Isaac 1647 Alexander 1651, Belle, Betsy
and Mary as well as Levin and probably Michael. Isaac though turns out not
to be our ancestor which I worked so hard to prove. He lived his life in
Somerset at least through 1820. Our Isaac appears in a tax list in Greene
Co PA in 1798, Census of 1800, and all family and legal documents prove
him there. Thus my research benefited many others. I think it is very
probable that Isaac Calvert of Somerset is the father or Uncle of William
Calvert b 1768. In their family legends it is noted that an Isaac Calvert
is the father of their William Calvert.
